I haven't found a reasonable application to take its place. But running Palm Desktop on Win 7? No issues, man. The only issue is getting sync to work. Luckily, Acceca came to the rescue with the necessary bit drivers.
And so, that's what I'm here to tell you. There are apparently bit drivers for you Palmists who want to sync your devices on computers made in the modern era. I love it when readers help out like this. Nice job, John! Finally, the entire PalmPower and PalmPower Enterprise Edition archive from back in the Palm heyday days is still online and searchable. It's now part of the archive I run at Computing Unplugged.
Disclosure: I get a few bucks every so often for ads that still run on the site. I tried using the steps listed above to establish compatibility, but was unsuccessful. This Palm PDA is extremely important. It transpires it is a driver issue. I cracked it thanks to Carlos who points you to the right Palm drivers for Windows 8.
Did you ever resolve the Palm zire problem? I also was able to install the program but the Hotsync manager will not function. This thread is locked.

When most of the other Palm OS vendors dropped out of the market, Palm rewrote their PIM applications and came out with a new internal architecture that was not fully compatible with Palm OS applications written for the earlier generation devices. We refer to the older devices as Legacy devices. Here is a list of specific devices which fall into each category: Legacy Devices: any device running OS4 or earlier, any non-Palm brand handheld Sony, Garmin, etc.
This procedure has worked perfectly with my Palm Zire 22 which is legacy model from the past. Marcos Luiz S. Filho from Brasil. Thanks so much, PalmDr! Saved everything! This kind of reset will wipe all data stored on your device and return it to factory defaults, like it is brand new again.
If your device fails a soft reset, and you have backed up or are prepared to wipe all data on your Zire, you can perform a hard reset. While pressing the power button, press the tip of the stylus or similar object such as an unfolded paperclip into the small hole located on the right side of the rear panel. You should feel the button depress and the screen should display the Palm logo. When you see the Palm logo, press the up button to confirm the hard reset. By connecting your Zire to your computer via USB cable, your computer may be able to trickle charge your device.
Note that this charge will take longer than a regular charge. The connectors on the charge port of your device may be bent or damaged. This will require repair or replacement of the charge port. The charge port is attached to the motherboard, so you may have to replace the motherboard in order to replace this port.
See the installation page for replacing the motherboard of the Zire Your battery may no longer store charge. Refer to the battery installation guide in order to replace your battery. You may want to check the voltage across your battery with a voltmeter as well. If you cannot open the application designated by one of the four shortcut buttons you may have reassigned an application for the button.
